Wheel loaders and excavators work on huge Texas highway project

Winter 2011

With a scheduled completion date of January, 2012, construction of the largest and most expensive toll road project in Texas history is moving forward full throttle.

One of the nation's biggest road contractors, W.W. Webber, is using a variety of equipment to finish the massive project, including several Doosan wheel loaders and excavators.

The company, which is headquartered in Houston, has more than 40 years of experience in building roads, bridges and airports, and knows how to choose just the right equipment for a particular job. Prior to this project, Webber had constructed 35 miles of toll roads, built 750 miles of new highways and eight airports.

During the past year Webber employees rented three sizes of Doosan excavators — DX225, DX300 and DX340 — and two wheel loader models — DL300 and DL400. A number of attachments were also rented from the Doosan dealer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, B & R Equipment, including several different sizes of buckets, along with pallet forks and breakers.

The Sam Rayburn Tollway, formerly called state highway 121, is 26 miles long. The roadway, with six main lanes, will link the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and the growing communities in Dallas, Denton and Collin counties.  The first phase was opened in May, 2006.
